This flowerpot was likely used in the Chinese Palace and displays the highly prized flash of crimson glaze. A jardinière, or flower pot was used for a growing plant. The inscribed numbers on jun ware ranged from one to ten, with one designating the largest and ten the smallest perhaps to help designate their size when matching flower pots with stands.
