I really enjoyed creating my own version of Ophelia. John Everett Millais’ work is of course so exquisite and famous, but what interested me the most was to learn the story of the painting’s model Elizabeth Siddal. I see her life as borderline and unconventional, which is why her story is so interesting. She seemed to be a fierce woman, making a living as a model despite the bad reputation models had at that time, and later as an woman artist alongside a majority in men.

In my artwork, I tried to depict both an artistic and melancholic atmosphere, which is what I felt when I read Siddal’s biography.
