I was inspired by the surrealist style of Remedios Varo’s “Papilla Estelar” as much as the title for my permutation of this incredible work of art. The idea of “Starry Porridge” and what that meant to me was influenced as well by a trip to the Dallas Museum of Art. Walking through a wide range of galleries and centuries I found myself continuously drawn to paintings with color, focal point and movement. I realized with my interpretation of Varo’s work I wanted to focus on the concept more than the figure. This work plays with visualizing the expansion of the universe and the human need to always look ahead, back or towards something for guidance. A postcard from time travel and a spoon ready for a bowl of “Starry Porridge”.
